About The Noble Chef (豪記私房菜)
Located at 6159 Balboa Ave, San Diego, CA 92111, The Noble Chef (豪記私房菜) operates as a cantonese restaurant serving San Diego in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Diego; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–2:30 pm. It is closed on Tuesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (858) 278-8688. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 511 reviews, which is a strong result for a cantonese restaurant in San Diego and suggests consistent service.
San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Diego is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

★★★★★ Old-school, authentic Chinese food—and still going strong I hadn't been to this restaurant in probably 15 years, so I figured it was time to go back. The interior has been remodeled since my last visit, and it looks very nice, but thankfully the food hasn't been "modernized" along with it. I would put this among the most authentic Chinese restaurants in San Diego. We tried the fish tofu pot and an intestine dish, and both were delicious. Bold flavors, properly prepared, and definitely not toned down for a broader American palate. An observation—and I don't mean this as an age or ethnicity stereotype—but while we were there, virtually the entire dining room was filled with Chinese customers, many of them older. No Instagram/TikTok trendy crowd, no food being staged for 20 photos before anyone could eat it. Just people enjoying their lunch. That's usually an encouraging sign to me. It's certainly not a foolproof way to judge a restaurant, but when a long-established ethnic restaurant attracts people who grew up with that cuisine, especially an older clientele who know the traditional dishes, I pay attention. Ironically, those same restaurants don't always get the highest

Great Hong Kong cuisine at The Noble Chef in Clairemont! we enjoyed the combination platter of Cantonese roasted duck and pork belly and the chef’s spare rib in the tin foil wrap. The spare rib was our favorite, it takes some effort to open but it is worth. Very attentive and accommodating service. Recommend!

Super busy, but very good overall. Peking duck was one of the best I’ve had in the United States. Clay pot pork and the beef/snow peas were delicious and very well made. Noodles were greasy without much flavor, onions were basically raw.

I ordered the clay pot rice, which is very fragrant. The roast duck is a must as the marination is just perfect. Shrimp was on the greasy side and I’ll avoid next time. Turnaround time could be improved as I arrived at 4pm when they first opened up and didn’t get my complete order until 515.

If you ask me about my favorite Cantonese restaurant in SD, it has to be 豪记! I'm not from Guangdong, but I fell in love with it after my first visit. My friends from Hong Kong also said it's incredibly authentic! I crave it every now and then. Highly recommend their BBQ and marinated dishes—the crispy roasted duck with sweet and sour sauce, the tender boiled chicken with scallion oil, plus Macau-style barbecue, Peking duck, honey-glazed char siu, soy sauce chicken, and braised pigeon. Also, don’t miss the garlicky Chinese broccoli, seafood tofu pot, pea shoots, French-style diced beef, beef chow fun, scallops in oil, pumpkin taro shrimp, white radish beef pot, garlic green beans… So many delicious dishes, and none of them disappoint! The service is great too—they serve complimentary tea when you sit down and offer free sweet soup after the meal, which is delicious! The only downside is that the restaurant is always busy, so remember to call ahead for a reservation! 5/3/2026 The noble chef Cantonese Restaurant used to be one I’d highly recommend, but I went there with friends recently and tried their new Pipa Duck. It was mostly just fat and bones with barely any meat on it. On to
